To assess the Vego Garden In-Ground Worm Composter, we looked at around 15 reports from on-site reviews on Walmart and Vego and Reddit threads, making an effort to exclude reviews which seemed unduly influenced by commissions.
Long term users of the Vego were broadly positive, with some choosing to run multiple units and one crediting them with doubling yields. The value for money was excellent, and at the time of writing it is the cheapest of the worm bins featured on Compost Magazine.
However, the bin underperformed competitors when it came to pest proofing, with users complaining the holes are large enough for a mouse to get through. The latch on the lid attracted complaints, with some complaining that they needed to use their entire body weight to open the latch while others said it wasn’t secure enough.
Like the Hungry Bin, some users complained the results came out clumpy and damp with worms everywhere. As with other worm bins, the bin is vulnerable to the cold - an issue which can be fixed with insulation (one report using straw and a cold frame for this.)
