To assess the Vego kitchen composter, we looked at reports from 8 independent owners from two Reddit threads (Dec 2024 - Aug 2026).
Users found the Vego was convenient to use with quick cycles when working. As with similar models, the output is ground and dehydrated food waste which requires further breakdown in compost or soil, although one owner reported using it to feed worms.
A number of problems were reported, including jams and clogs. The worst issues occurred when using citrus, avocado and fibrous peels - but others mitigated these with browns and chopping.
The most serious issue reported was that of three heating element failures within a year - a significant number given that we could only identify eight user reports that were not motivated by commissions. Customer service proved slow to respond and offered a $50 coupon instead of repair, leading one user to comment that the device is a “pretty expensive paper weight”.
There was some resentment over the consumables, with one owner skipping the “mystery tablets”, while another reported the charcoal lasting three months.
Despite the issues, there were some clear enthusiasts among the owners - although this has to be balanced against others who say they will never use the device again.
